
Teens from Ritchie County High School Take WV State LifeSmarts Title
Congratulations to Sophie, Braiden, Joshua, Zane and Garrett. They will represent West Virginia at Nationals in April.
LifeSmarts, a consumer education competition that challenges teens in grades 6-8 (Junior Varsity) and 9-12 (Varsity) about personal finance, health & safety, the environment, technology & workforce development, and consumer rights & responsibilities, is a program of the National Consumers League. Our 4th grade students have been learning to code this year using Code.org. They are now applying those skills through the use of the Sphero Robots. It is thoroughly enjoyable watching the students be so engaged in learning.

RCMS has our first PTO Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 5:00 pm. Officers will be elected, and bylaws will be shared. Hope to see you there!

Our elementary students have been learning about computer coding. These 4th graders at Harrisville Elementary have been using their coding skills to program the Sphero robots. It is amazing to see how much they have learned and how excited they get when coding the robots.

Ritchie County Students will not report to school today, Tuesday January 31, 2023. However, today will be a Non-Traditional Instruction Day and students will complete their assignments at home. Employees will report to work at 10:00am.


Ritchie County Schools will be on a two hour delay, today Tuesday January 31, 2023.

On Friday, January 6th, nearly 270 RCHS students were eligible to attend the semester attendance party sponsored by Communities in Schools. 70 of these students had perfect attendance. Congratulations to Calvin Sheets, Ray Campbell, Tracy Abner, Chesnee Williams, Addison Thomas, Rose Anderson, Evelyn Cunningham, Alexis McDonald, Carter Satterfield, Jonathan Rhodes, and Katelynn Owens for winning the prizes. Prizes included a gaming keyboard, a Bluetooth speaker, AirPods, a 40” TV, four $50.00 Amazon gift vouchers, a Fitbit, a ring light, and LED lights.

SMART529 ESSAY CONTEST

The sixteenth annual SMART529 “When I Grow Up” essay contest for children from Kindergarten through Grade 5 is now underway through February 24, 2023. Students may submit essays electronically or through paper entry forms with permission from a parent or guardian. SMART529 "When I Grow Up" contest entry forms, were mailed to schools the first week of January. Please ask the principals in your county to distribute the newsletter to students and parents.
